THOMAS DEKKER

Thomas Dekker (c. 1572 25 August 1632) was an English Elizabethan dramatist and pamphleteer, a writer of many verses whose career spanned several decades and brought him into contact with many of the period's most famous dramatists. He also wrote  "A Cradle Song," which is known throughout the world.

A CRADLE SONG

Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise.
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby :
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Care is heavy, therefore sleep you;
You are care, and care must keep you.
Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby :
Rock them, rock them lullaby.

A Cradle Song

My three sisters and I used to sing this Lullaby in Sunday School, when we were children
